How to get past iPhone Emergency Call Screen

The following steps have been tested to work with iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G and iPhone 2G.

To do so you will need an already activated AT&T Sim card. If the sim card has not already been activated, a.k.a, brand new sim card, it will not work. You may purchase one easily from eBay.

  • Power on the iPhone
  • Start iTunes on your computer
  • At the Emergency call screen, insert the sim card into the iPhone.
  • Connect the iPhone to computer via USB cable.
  • Wait 2 minutes or so.
  • It should get past the emergency call screen. If it does not, disconnect the USB cable and reconnect. It should work then.
Now you have an iPhone with all features enabled. You can get to the main menu and download apps, music and play games like an iPod Touch.

  • This works for iPhones from all carriers. If the iPhone was purchased from Rogers for example, you will need a used/activated sim card from Rogers.
  • The sim card must NOT have a passcode over it. Otherwise it will not work.
  • if iTunes prompts you for the billing address zip code and last 4 digit of SSN number of the iPhone owner, it means that the sim card is current associated with another iPhone. You will need another sim card to activate the phone.

How to fix iPhone green/yellow screen

When iPhone's battery is drained, it may show the battery with a red bar to indicate that the battery is drained. When the iPhone's battery is completely depleted, sometimes the iPhone will show a green/yellow screen. And if you plug in your iPhone to the wall charger and charge it overnight, it may not even charge. Here are the steps you need to take to fix it.
  • Connect iPhone with USB cable to your PC directly, without any USB hub or any other accessories (You cannot charge with wall charge, only via PC)
  • Start iTunes.
  • Charge the iPhone for 1 hour or so. It will come up with the boot logo. Now you can charge it with wall charger normally.

Factory Unlocked iPhone vs Software Unlocked iPhone

What is the difference between factory unlocked iPhone and software unlocked iPhone?

The primary difference is that software unlocked iPhone's firmware shall only be upgraded with caution. Once the firmware is upgraded/updated, the iPhone loses the unlock and can only be used with original carrier. You will need to reinstall the unlocking software in order to unlock the iPhone. However, if the unlocking software is still under development and is not available for the latest iOS firmware. You will have to wait until the software becomes available. Often times, the unlocking software lags behind the new iOS firmware release dates for a few days or weeks. But it does become publicly available for free.

In addition, factory unlocked iphone typically runs at a much higher price than software unlocked iphone. This is because Apple and AT&T does not sell them in United States. One will have to import them from selected other countries such as Canada or UK.

Other than that, the functionality of the phones are the same. The only way to tell whether it's a factory unlocked iPhone or a software unlocked iphone is to check the model number of the phone in the Setting -> About menu.
